LikeMinded 2020/21

Queer Mind, Body and Soul was a free exhibition exploring youth experiences and perspectives of the LGBTQIA+ and gender non-conforming community and their allies with the Gaisce LikeMinded project that emerged through a collaboration between the National Gallery of Ireland and Gaisce – The President’s Award. Collaborating with artist Shireen Shortt from September 2020 until June 2021 the group explored and developed ways to give expression to their own experiences and perspectives across various self-selected modes of artistic expression through multiple disciplines and media. Their work was exhibited from 30 July – 17 October 2021 in the Millennium Wing Studio of the National Gallery of Ireland.

The National Gallery of Ireland’s Apollo Project is a new way to experience the Gallery designed by young people for young people. Gaisce - The President's Award is a self-development programme for young people under the age of 26, and is a direct challenge from the President of Ireland Michael D. Higgins to young people to ‘dream big and realise their potential’.

The Apollo Fellowship is made possible through the generous support of the Apollo Foundation. The Gaisce LikeMinded Programme has been made possible with the support of Rethink Ireland and Norma Smurfit.

LikeMinded 2019/20

The LikeMinded project was a bespoke personal development programme for LGBTI+ young people and their allies aged 14-17 run by Gaisce – The President’s Award in 2019.

To mark the end of its first year, participants hosted an exhibition of their creative work, which they developed over the course of the project. Participants chose mediums of art, embroidery, spoken word, mixed media and dance to express their perspectives and highlight issues they felt were meaningful for young LGBT+ people in Ireland.
